For iOS 13 or above, why does eufy Clean app need location authorization when connecting to WiFi?
When connecting your eufy device to your home WiFi, after "add device", you will choose the surrounding WiFi SSID and connect to the right one. In this step, eufy Clean app has to be able to have the surrounding WiFi SSID detected by your iOS phone, same as other smart home apps.
Before iOS 13, this action did not need specific authorization. As Apple announced at WWDC19, they're making changes to further protect user privacy and prevent unauthorized location tracking. Starting with iOS 13, the API will no longer return valid Wi-Fi SSID and BSSID information and when app gets WiFi SSID, the location access might be authorized. Otherwise, the app cannot get the correct WiFi SSID and connecting smart home devices to WiFi would fail.
Apple was improving location access in iOS 14 by adding a precise location option. For lower versions with location access authorized, the precise location option was granted.
