How does the backup battery of Video Doorbell S4(T8215) work?
The doorbell is powered by a wired transformer, with a built-in battery serving as a backup. Under normal conditions, the transformer supplies all the power the doorbell needs, and the battery stays fully charged without being drained. How the battery works: when the output of the transformer is insufficient to meet the power demand, the battery automatically fills the gap; since the transformer powers the device in most scenarios, the battery is rarely discharged under normal use. Why features may be limited: some features consume significantly more power than others, such as infrared night vision, Approach Interaction lights, and the speaker at full volume; when the battery level drops too low to support these high-power features, the doorbell temporarily limits them to ensure that essential functions like live view, motion detection, and two-way talk continue to work without interruption. When this happens: it is uncommon and typically occurs only in two situations: 1. During initial setup, when the battery has not yet had enough time to charge from the transformer (approximately 30 minutes). 2. During extended periods of extreme cold, when low temperatures prevent the battery from charging properly. Automatic recovery: no action is needed; once the battery charges back to a sufficient level, all features are restored automatically, and the current battery level can be checked on the Power & Features page at any time. Recommended transformer: for the best experience, use a transformer rated at 16-24V AC, 10VA-40VA, which ensures the doorbell always receives adequate power and the battery stays fully charged as a reliable backup.
