How to Configure Privacy Zones
The eufyCam S4 supports customizable privacy zones for both its PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera and bullet (fixed-lens) camera. Follow the steps below to configure privacy zones:
Navigation Path:
Camera Settings → Video Settings → Privacy Zone
Setup Steps:
-
Open the Settings page in the eufy app.
-
Use the camera selector at the top to toggle between the Bullet Camera and the PTZ Camera views.
-
For each selected view, define up to four privacy zones.
-
Adjust each zone as needed to mask areas you wish to exclude from video recording.
How Privacy Mode Works on PTZ and Bullet Cameras
The eufyCam S4 introduces Dynamic Privacy Masking, a significant upgrade over traditional PTZ privacy implementations found in earlier models (e.g., eufyCam S340, Model T8170).
Key Features:
-
Dynamic Masking During Movement:
Unlike older PTZ models where privacy mode disabled camera movement, the eufyCam S4 allows continuous gimbal rotation while maintaining active privacy masking.
-
Smart Calibration-Based Masking:
The eufyCam S4 uses internal calibration data to intelligently synchronize privacy zones between the bullet and PTZ views.
For example, when a privacy zone is defined in the bullet view, the PTZ camera will automatically mask the corresponding area as it rotates into position, ensuring consistent privacy coverage from all angles.
Understanding Privacy Zone Offsets Between Bullet and PTZ Views
If a privacy zone set in the bullet camera appears misaligned when viewed through the PTZ camera, this may be due to the following factors:
-
Calibration Deviation
-
Calibration data is established during manufacturing and may introduce slight, unavoidable offsets.
-
To mitigate potential privacy gaps, the software intentionally enlarges the black masking area when transferring zone data from the bullet view to the PTZ view.
-
Mechanical Rotation Deviation
-
Minor positional shifts may occur during large or continuous PTZ movements due to mechanical tolerances.
-
To improve accuracy, you can manually recalibrate the gimbal using the following path: Camera Settings → Pan-Tilt Settings → Pan and Tilt Speed → Calibrate.
