eufyCam S4 - Solar Panel FAQ

Why is my camera battery still dropping?

The eufyCam S4 is designed to be powered sustainably via its removable battery and an external solar panel. While the solar panel continuously supplies power, the camera also consumes energy during operation. If the power consumption exceeds the amount of solar energy collected, the battery level may begin to decrease.

Possible Causes and Solutions

  1. Insufficient Solar Charging

The most common reason for a declining battery level is limited solar input. This may occur due to:

Solar Panel Positioning:

Ensure the solar panel is installed in a location that receives direct sunlight for at least 1–2 hours daily. Adjust the angle and orientation if necessary.

Weather Conditions:

Overcast, rainy, or cloudy weather can temporarily reduce charging efficiency. This is expected behavior, and charging performance will recover as sunlight improves.

  1. Excessive Power Consumption

The camera may be using more power than typical. This could be due to high activity in the monitored area or overly sensitive settings.

To optimize battery efficiency:

  • Select the Optimal Battery Life Mode in the app.

  • Lower motion detection sensitivity to reduce unnecessary activations.

  • Set Motion Detection to “Human Only” to ignore animals or vehicles.

  • Enable Activity Zones to focus monitoring on specific areas and avoid false triggers (e.g., from passing traffic or swaying trees).

  • Disable power-consuming features such as snapshot and pre-record, and attempt to use a constant power connection to enable 24/7 operation.

How efficient is the external solar panel?

Under optimal conditions, the solar panel can collect approximately 1,500–2,000 mAh per day with full sunlight exposure.

  • Average camera power usage: 350–450 mAh per day.

  • With just 1 to 2 hours of direct sunlight daily, this is generally enough to maintain the battery for regular operation.

Note: For optimal charging efficiency, install the camera and solar panel in a location with direct sunlight during peak daylight hours.

Why doesn't my camera battery stay at 100%?

It is normal for the battery to fluctuate and not remain at 100% at all times. Solar charging efficiency varies daily based on:

  • Weather conditions

  • Seasonal changes

  • Sunlight angle and duration

As long as the battery level remains stable over time and does not consistently decline, there is no cause for concern. When weather conditions improve, the solar panel will recharge the battery more effectively, and the charge level will recover.
