If your S2 robot is unable to cross a threshold between rooms or struggles with small height transitions, follow the steps below to troubleshoot the issue and understand the robot’s design limitations.
Step 1: Clean and Maintain the Omni-Directional Wheel
-
Dirt or debris on the omni wheel can reduce traction, making it difficult for the robot to cross thresholds.
-
Regular cleaning ensures smooth operation. Please refer to the maintenance tutorial [Video: https://youtu.be/aTNrP6QlqF8].
Step 2: Remove Oil or Grease from Wheels
-
Wheels contaminated with oil or slippery residue can lose grip.
-
Wipe the wheels thoroughly with a dry cloth to restore traction.
Note: Do not drip water directly onto the robot, as moisture can damage internal components.
Step 3: Understand the Robot’s Threshold Limit
-
When climbing a threshold, the robot’s front slightly lifts, triggering anti-drop sensors.
-
For safety, the S2 robot can reliably cross thresholds up to 35 mm.
-
Any threshold higher than 35 mm exceeds the robot’s design limit and may not be crossed successfully.
Step 4: Address Slippery Floors or Water Near Thresholds
-
Wet or slippery surfaces near thresholds can cause the wheels to slip, preventing the robot from climbing.
-
For higher or challenging thresholds, consider installing a small auxiliary ramp or threshold strip to help the robot transition smoothly.
Following these steps will improve threshold-crossing performance and help you understand the S2 robot’s design limitations.
